Gidgets Newest Battle Wound
Sometimes I think that god loves to play tricks on me when it comes to my horses and the injuries they inflict on themselves. After everything we went through with Tiny and her "west nile" incident I would have thought I was good on injuries for awhile but I am realizing that its just not the case. Saturday morning I woke up with a million things to do before the football game. I needed to feed, pick up Mckenna, go get beer, etc etc etc. Well I got up and out of the house an hour before I had to pick up Mckenna so I figured screw it I would run out to the horses and then just drive back into to pick her up since I had plenty of time. Well as my make my way down the barn checking on all of the horses I get to Gidget and Waylons pen and she is standing right up against the corner which is out of character for her. I walk up to the gate to see whats up and thats when I see it. Her leg is covered in blood and I can see multiple open wounds. I literally say outloud "you got to be F****** kidding me right now." I know that I dont have the supplies at the barn to deal with this so I throw in her feed and run across the street to IFA. I get back and she is eating which makes me sigh in relief but once I get a good look at her leg it is nasty. I pull her out of her pen to better look at the cuts and I am releived to see that none are deep enough to need stitches but had I caught it earlier I probably would have had one of them stiched up. I get her cleaned with betadine which stings like heck so of course she starts kicking out at me and all bandaged up but by this time my clothes for the game are covered in sand and blood. I start to walk around to try and see what she caught herself on and thats when I see the fence. From the looks of it she must have kicked at Tiny through the fence and when she did her legs went through to rows of stock fencing. The fence was torn apart so I can imagine what it much have been like. Well at least it seems like she will be fine in a few weeks but I am hoping she learned a lesson about kicking the stock fencing....but I doubt it.
